[Board Message]
[Pinned on the message board in the main foyer of the Overlord's Castle is a new notice, something of an advertisement, really. Done mostly by hand, it reads the following:]
NOW OPEN: ADELL'S ITEM WORLD LEVELING SERVICE
That new sword you bought not cutting it? That armor you found on a defeated enemy not protective enough? Don't sell them off for a quick buck, invest in it. No time for Item Worlding to make it better? That's where we come in.
I can provide quick, easy Item World leveling and service for a reasonable fee up front, there are two options you can take:
1) If you don't wish to come into the item along with me after you pay the fee, I will level the item up as best as I can. What's the catch here? Anything I find in the item, gear, money, or other valuables are mine. But on the other hand, you just gained a powerful item for only paying an upfront, one-time cost.
2) If you choose to accompany me into the item, items and Hell will be divided equally between us, with preference of items going to the consumer.
Either way is a good deal, so next time you're in need of an item upgrade and you can't find the time or don't want to take the risk of venturing into the Item World alone, count on Adell for everything you need!
[Action]
[Adell himself had put the finishing touches on his stall a few days before, finally ready for business. It took a lot longer to get off the ground than he started; he had to level up some gear of his own on the side to make sure he could cover the tougher contracts. Thankfully, having power comparable to an Overlord made Item World running easy enough. So fully equipped and ready, Adell sat at his stall and awaited any curious individuals or potential customers.
He kept an eye out. Honestly, he was surprised no one else thought of this sooner. He'll probably make a killing off it.]

So how's this Item World thing work, anyway? I've heard about it, but nobody's given me a detailed rundown.
*That's right, Adell. He needs a Tutorial.*

It's... well, it's not necessarily simple, but it's easy enough to understand, I think.
Here in the Netherworld, every item, from the most common stick of gum to the most badass sword imaginable, has a realm inside of it. It's kinda like a tower, or a labyrinth sort of thing, and the realm is populated with what are called Residents. Most of them aren't friendly and try to kick your ass. Some of them live in towns and are peaceful.
The real key to unleashing any given item's true power is working your way through the "tower" of the item, clearing floors and defeating specific enemies within. As you do so, the item increases in level, and with it, its attributes increase: Swords become keener and more dangerous, guns more lethally accurate, and pizza more delicious than you ever imagined.
Item Worlding, as we call it, is a dangerous pasttime for the inexperienced or low level. The more powerful an item is, the stronger its residents. If you hit a point where enemies are too strong, it's wise to back out until you get stronger. But the risk is often worth the reward, because not only is your item now more powerful, but you may recover spoils from the item world itself.

He approaches Adell's stall, the complete lack of comprehension easily visible on his face even before he asks.]
What's this all about?
[Action]
Hey, Zuko.
Well, what this is, is a service to help people out with the Item World, which is accessed by talking to that person over there. [He points to the Item Worlder, who looks bored and not at all like she really wants to be on shift right now.] But that doesn't tell you what the Item World is.
Simply put, any item here in the Netherworld, from candy to weapons to armor, all has its own realm attached to it, like a multi-layered tower. By going into the Item World and climbing the tower floors as it were, your item's hidden potential is further unlocked. So a sword becomes stronger and sharper, or armor becomes tougher and harder to penetrate or damage.
The catch is those floors are filled with residents of the Item World, and most of them are hostile. And the more powerful and with the more potential your items hold, the stronger those residents will be. Inexperienced Item Worlders might get overwhelmed.
That's where I come in. I either take care of the dirty work involved in powering up an item to a point, or I act as a guide and fellow combatant inside the Item World to help the process along.

[Even for this place, that seems pretty far-fetched.]
no subject
[That's said with such confidence, it would be hard to believe he was pulling someone's leg.]
Beat up the right ones, and your swords will get even better. There are even some residents who are actually benign who will help your weapon get even further stronger, like increasing your chances of landing blows to weak points or boosting other attributes. Hell, some could make the sword better at blocking attacks.
Sounds nuts, I know. But it's the truth. I've spent a lot of time in Item Worlds, after all.

But the skilled deserve to have the best weapons they can get their hands on, don't you think?
no subject
If you want to talk about a good weapon, then you talk about the weight and the balance, the quality of the steel and the sharpness of the blade. Anything else is confusing the weapon with its master.
no subject
Think of it almost like magic, if you must. But it's a for real deal.
In fact, I really need to get some demo copies of weapons to illustrate that. Thanks for that idea.
no subject
Yeah. Some display pieces might help your pitch.
[It almost sounds like he thinks Adell is trying to dupe people.]
no subject
Hey, if you think I'm trying to screw you over, why don't you go into the Item World and see for yourself? I don't pass out free runs to just anyone, so how about this? Why don't I give you one of the swords I found in one of my runs, you can test it, and then go improve it yourself?
I live in the Netherworld, man. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this, and lying about it isn't my style.
no subject
[Although the thought that people might actually be able to go inside their weapons like Adell says is easily more disturbing than that of a potential scam. Yeah, let's stick with disbelief.]
I'm happy with my own swords, thanks all the same.
(sorry for the delay, been a long week...)
Well, whatever. I'll have demo swords soon enough, so if you ever get curious again, you can check 'em out if you want.
no worries!
Maybe I will. We'll see how many satisfied customers you've had by then.
[Action]
Adell? Um, I saw your advertisement. I have a question about it....
[Well, several. But she'll try to be polite and ask one at a time.]
[Action]
It's about the whole thing, isn't it? The Item World?
[Action]
It seems incredible. How do you get there?
[Action]
[He points to a female demon milling about not too far from the Dimensional Gate.]
And you need an item that you want to improve. Once you decide, you give it to her, and she'll warp you inside of it.
[Action]
[One hand rests on the hilt of her sword, likely what she might want to see improved.]
[Action]
...Thinking about going in there to improve your own, I'm guessing?
[Action]
Right. If I'm to keep helping with security around here, it seems to be a good idea. And...I'm curious. I would like to see how this all works. If that's alright?
[Action]
I've got a loaner I can let you borrow, though.
[From out behind the counter, he hauls out a rune blade, one of good quality that should suffice in place of Terra's blade for now, at any rate.]
...And seeing how it's you, I'm going to waive my up-front fee.
[Action]
Oh--thank you. I think this will do just fine.
[Odds are, it will be a backup anyway. Her magic is usually her first line of offense and defense.]
I'm ready, then.
[Action]
[Action]
No, I haven't. And I haven't really gone very far outside the castle, let alone fighting beyond it.
[Action]
You might've heard something about Geo Symbols and Geo Panels while you've been here in the castle from others in the castle, right? Do you know anything about them, because if not, you really need to know. Knowing could give you the advantage in combat and may save your hide.
[Action]
[And so she listens, attentive. Survival is a high priority, after all.]
[Action]
Errr... wait, since when can you enter an item?
[How is this even possible?]
[Action]
[Action]
... or a demon. [Like that one guy at Rosenqueen...]
But still... what exactly is in there? I mean, it's just a weapon, there can't be a lot of stuff, right?
[Action]
I know it sounds nuts, but the first time you go into the Item World, you'll see just how big the places can be.
[Action]
... why the heck would people live in there? [How's the rent?]
[Action]
no subject
Are you absolutely sure about this? I mean... I get the concept, making a weapon stronger. It's a lot like enchantment, or even alchemy. But a world? And inside not only things from this world, but others as well?
[He considers his collection, and comes to a decision. Onto the counter comes Kaladbolg. Legendary quality, level... one. Yeeeeah. Clearly this is not someone's preferred blade.]
What kind of fee are we talking, here, for the ride along version?
no subject
[He looks over the Kaladbolg, and lets out a low whistle.]
That's a nice sword, man. Legendary and everything. Has a ton of potential. Let's see... for the escort version, the up-front fee is going to be 20,000 HL, plus the fees associated when we get in, just like on the flyer. May sound like a lot, but trust me, we beat up enough dudes, you'll make the entry fee up in a hurry.
no subject
[Gonna be poking around in his Coat O' Holding for a minute here, give him a sec.]
...no, wrong pocket... that's fist loads... no, and when exactly did I pick up a rubber chicken? ...ah, there it is.
[Out comes a fairly substantial money bag.]
About how long does it usually take?
[By the way, Adell? No one has introduced Soma to the geopanel system yet. May wanna make sure he's been through the tutorials first.]
no subject
If you just want your weapon ready fast, running's the way to go. Me, I do a mix of both depending on the item.
Also, two more things before we go. You have another weapon, right? You won't be able to use this one inside its own world. Paradox stuff. Second, how much fighting have you done in the Netherworld so far?
Sorry for the horrendous delay. DX Life decided I needed a curbstomping.
Just the thing with the ghosts, though I hesitate to call that a fight. Why?
no subject
...I'm not going to ask how deep your pockets are. Or what your weapon proficiencies are. But I am going to ask you where you got a badass laser rifle like that because I know someone back home who might like one.
[After that, he straightens up and gets back to the task at hand.]
How much have you heard about Geo Panels and Geo Symbols while you've been here?
no subject
Would you believe I found it in a monster-infested castle? 'Cause I did. You're welcome to it if you want it, I have no particular use for it.
I'm not... really sure what you're talking about. No one's mentioned anything about either of those things to me.
action;
Yeah.]

He just waits for now. the familiar sound is echoing all over the place.
...New idea for a gift for Stella: a scabbard.]

Hey Stella. ...Are you looking to level that sword up, or...?
